Persuasive Technique

Your task is to create a definition glossary of all the persuasive techniques you could use in writing. 

You need to complete this task on a sheet that can be stuck into your green books. 

For each technique I expect to see: 
  • Three different examples of these techniques. 
  • A definition of what each techniques is.
  • An explanation of the effect these techniques have on the reader/listener.

The Power of Speech

Research a famous speech given by someone. 

Print the speech off and annotate it for the following techniques:
  • Personal Pronouns
  • Emotive Language / Powerful adjectives
  • Alliteration / Anecdotes
  • Rhetorical Questions
  • List of Three / Facts and Figures
  • Simile / Metaphor 
Write a 100 word summary explaining what the speech is about, its message and how the speaker wants thee audience to feel.

The Power of Social Media

Research and find out information on social media. 

Consider these points when researching:
  • When did social media first start being used?
  • What was the original intention of social media? 
  • How many people use social media?
  • Why is social media so popular?
  • What different forms of social media exist?
  • What are some of the dangers of social media?
  • How did people cope in a world before social media?

Written task:
  • You are to write a speech putting forward two different sides to an argument. 
  1. Life is better as a result of social media. 
  2. Life is worse as a result of social media. 
Success criteria of features to include when writing your speech:
  • 1st person perspective. 
  • Direct speech.
  • Rhetorical questions. 
  • Lists of three. 
  • Repetition. 
  • Superlatives. 
  • Facts, figures and statistics. 
  • Similes and Metaphors.
